The 4-Pillar (Meng or destiny) system classifies every one as one of the five elements (wood, water, metal, earth and fire). There are 2 parts: the birth composite (BC), describing the quality of your life, and the luck cycle (LC), accounting for the periodic onset of new flows. Additional new energy set in your life every 5 years, changing your life, and causing ups and downs for some.
Let's explain with President Richard Nixon birthday.

Here are footnotes on the connotations of the signs (letter alphabets): R: river, lakes, ocean, r: rain, fog, dew, T: tree, t: plants, flowers, F: fire, basically the sun. f: man-made fire, M: metal ore, m refined metal, ornaments, E; dry earth, e: moist earth for vegetation to grow. All letters on the top row are STEMS, on the bottom row, BRANCHES.
In the BC, the underlined letter is the person of the birthday; it is always the stem at the day pillar, representing the person of the birth day. This is called the Self. The other 7 letters describe her/his birth environment. By cosmic classification, President Nixon is a yang metal (See underlined letter, a capital sign is yang while a small letter, yin). Each column of 2 letters forms a pillar; their 4 pillars present the flow of year, month, day and the hour.
In the luck cycle (LC), the turning point is age 9, 14, 19, 24 etc., as indicated in the LC. Please note that each letter represents a period of 5 years. Readers can map out their energy system by following the model explain in the PATH TO GOOD FORTUNE (p.49-50)
Analysis of Birth Composite:
It starts with the self which is yang metal, metal ore. Fire is crucial turning the metal ore turning into a useful tool, i.e. mating him a productive person/high achiever. Bottom line: Fire gives him the best luck while water does the opposite as it puts out the fire; in the extreme cases, water could make a knife rusty..
Let us search for fire in his BC. There are some fire signs at the day and hour position, occurring at the later part of his life. It is not enough to make him a high achiever; he needed to additional fire to team up what he had in his BC, from his luck cycle. The list of his key life events below shows how fire making him a high achiever.
At 33 (1946) during his ‘F’ LC in a fire year (FH, see the F as fire for 1946, calendars in THE PATH TO GOOD FORTUNE, list the dominant cosmic flow for each year), he entered the Congress, a big step forward. Both the fire in his BC and the grand cosmos worked together to score the victory.
At 39 during the LC ‘f f’, additional fire boosted his energy, he became the vice president. The double ‘f’ (fire) reinforced each other to make it a powerful fire pillar.
As the fire dwindled in momentum at the last leg of the ‘f’ cycle, he finished his two term vice-presidency and started to campaign against Kennedy for the next president. He lost. Why? He campaigned in 1960 (MR), by cosmic flow, a very wet year, putting out the meager fire from his own system.
When did he become the president? At 55, in his branch F cycle, a powerful fire under proper chemical interaction put him back in power. This ‘F’ joined the other fire signs in his BC, making the most powerful fire team available in his life; suddenly he became the most powerful person in the world. Thus he was up again after the down.
Why did he get into the Watergate incident? First, he was out of his ‘F’ cycle, not supported by the magic energy; secondly, 1972 (RR), with double water sign, was a very wet year ( Refer to the key event calendar). He left the office in 1974 at his LC of moist earth which also drained his limited fire.
Amazingly, the element of water which he dreaded most, manifested itself in the Watergate incident which ruined his presidency.
He died in the winter (watery season for each year) of 1994 (TH) at the age of 81, his metal period, empowering water.
At this point we like to share a simple 4-pillar theory with our readers. He resigned in August 9 (metal month and water day), 1974(TT). Both 1994 and 1974 were years of “T” in which the wood, a Tree was in charge, being the King of the specific year. Symbolically, as a ‘M’self, a metal person, he was trying to challenge (to chop) the King “T”.
The natural law says: The rebel would be punished by the King. As a result, he was severely punished, in both incidents.

This example shows you the basic principles how the Meng procedure works. The 4-pillar system has hundreds and hundreds of formulas to explain all the details of our complicated lives.
It was so sad to see that John Kennedy, Jr. had all his major sadness connected to the year of yin wood. ‘t’ (loss of both fathers, his prosecutor job and his life); his mother widowed twice and died in the wood years as well.
The story of Ted Kaczynski ( B:5-22-42) which puzzled every one happens to be a textbook case in the Meng system. Metal flow hurts him! He got the full score of metal flow in his LC over a period of 25 years, shortly after he taught in Berkeley. He quit at the metal year and began his ordeal for 25 year with underground metal cutting his roots (He was classified as a plant in the Meng), making him rootless. The 14 mail-bombings all took place a few days after the day of powerful metal flow, i.e. the bomb was mailed. around the day of powerful metal flow. Being intuitive, he subconsciously wanted to melt down the metal with fire (the bomb) to get some relief. Starting age 55, he moved to the LC of surface metal (symbolically could mean metal bar) to serve his time.

- As a rule: Get busy and work hard in a good flow cycle and keep a low profile in a bad flow period.
